The first DiSC model came from Dr. William Marston, a physiological psychologist in 1928. DiSC is the number one personal assessment tool used in many different ways to increase productivity, teamwork and communication. DiSC profiles can help you when you’re trying to make a sale, working as a team, or even leading a team of your own. Knowing and understanding DiSC profiles can increase your self-knowledge, by understanding where you fit in the DiSC profile. This tool also will help develop stronger sales skills, facilitate better as a team, and improve work relationships by understanding communication needs of others.
D - Dominance. This person places emphasis on accomplishing results, the bottom line, confidence Behaviors: sees the big picture, can be blunt, accepts challenges, gets straight to the point
I - Influence. Person places emphasis on influencing or persuading others, openness, relationships Behaviors: Shows enthusiasm, is optimistic, likes to collaborate, dislikes being ignored
S - Steadiness. Person places emphasis on cooperation, sincerity, dependability Behaviors: Doesn’t like to be rushed, calm manner, calm approach, supportive actions
C - Conscientiousness. Person places emphasis on quality and accuracy, expertise, competency Behaviors: Enjoys independence, objective reasoning, wants the details, fears being wrong |
Understanding other people and being able to identify which part of DiSC they fall under can give you a lot of insight to how that person thinks and behaves. Using this information, you can tailor your relationship to meeting these needs and producing a mutually beneficial relationship for both of you. Once you can start identifying where people identify in DiSC, you can implement it in your career and personal life. These skills are valuable in many ways beyond business. Being able to connect with people and work together with them is an invaluable skill to have!
